JCPenney underwent a rebranding when Ron Johnson came on board from Apple. Coupons went bye-bye as did sales gimmicks. Well, we all know how that went. Anyway, during this time, I updated JCPenney’s social presence to fit the new branding by establishing the voice and tone and scripting the first few months of posts.
We also wanted to do something never been done before, so we created the JCPenney Facebook Store. The retail giant became the first major brick-and-mortar store to make its entire catalog available to shoppers within Facebook. JCPenney shoppers could buy any of the 250,000 items that the department store sells online without leaving Facebook. Well, we all know how that went.
Other brands followed us and set up their own Facebook stores, but none were successful. So it wasn’t just us, it was Facebook! But hey, this was a great learning experience.
